Kentucky Attorney General Andy Beshear has filed a motion to intervene in Kentucky State University’s lawsuit against University of Kentucky’s student newspaper the Kentucky Kernel.

Beshear found KSU violated the Open Records Act in January by denying records to a Kentucky Kernel reporter regarding university investigations into sexual misconduct allegations.

KSU also denied document requests from Beshear’s office to legally review the withheld documents.  A hearing in the KSU case is scheduled for March 29.

Beshear’s office will also file a motion this week to intervene in Western Kentucky University’s lawsuit against its student newspaper, the College Heights Herald involving a similar incident.
